From the New York Times bestselling author of The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden comes an emotional new story about two troubled souls sharing one all-encompassing love . . . THE REDEMPTION OF CALLIE & KAYDENThe dark secret Kayden has kept hidden for years is finally out. Worse, he's facing charges for battery. The only way to clear his name is for Callie to speak up-something he'll never ask her to do. Instead, he'll do whatever he must to protect her . . . even if it means letting go of the only girl he's ever loved.Callie knows Kayden is going back to his dark place and desperately wants to save him. But that means facing her greatest fear and admitting her own painful secrets aloud. The thought of breaking her silence terrifies her-but not as much as the thought of losing Kayden forever.Deep in her heart, Callie knows the time has come for her and Kayden to forget the pain of the past. With the help of her friends Seth and Luke she makes a plan to show Kayden the life they could have. But can she convince him they can make a fresh start together-or is she already too late?
As I said on Goodreads, this was a great book and I loved it, but I’m left a little… something that I can’t quite put my finger on.
I guess it’s the ending. Although Callie and Kayden are great and they appear to be going in the direction I want for them, there were a lot of unanswered questions for me and at the same time they seemed to have tied up their story too. It’s just a little weird for me.
I don’t mind coming to my own conclusions somewhat and sort of thinking about how I choose to believe characters end up but like I said there are just so many questions left open for me that the story seemed a bit rushed and unfinished for me. When I say “rushed” I only mean in the last few chapters. The beginning was perfect.
I realize that there are more books coming in the series but the next one is Luke’s story so that leads me to believe that Callie and Kayden’s story is done. Maybe I’m wrong and I hope so. I hope that some things get cleared up in Luke’s book. (Which btw I can’t wait for! I love Luke.)
UPDATE: SINCE WRITING THIS REVIEW I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT AFTER BOOK 3 (LUKE’S STORY) THERE WILL BE A BOOK 3.5 CALLED THE RESOLUTION OF CALLIE AND KAYDEN. THIS MAKES ME COMPLETELY THRILLED BECAUSE I’M SURE THE UNANSWERED QUESTIONS THAT I BABBLED ON ABOUT WILL BE CLEARED UP! SOOOOOOOOO HAPPY NOW! CAN’T WAIT! … I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN SORENSEN WOULDN’T LET ME DOWN!
Having said that though, I really did love this book. I couldn’t put it down and I’m somewhat happy with it… albeit a little confused.
The characters are fantastic. Not just Callie and Kayden, but Luke and Seth as well. I love reading about them.
Now, with regard to Jessica Sorensen. I’m totally falling in love with all of her books, stories and characters. She’s truly a phenomenal talent. Her style and language (?) keeps me turning those pages. When I read her books it’s always a late night for me. I finished the book last night before going to sleep and I believe it was 1:30 or 2:00 am? Not good for a working gal!
ALL of her books have been fantastic for me, but in this particular book there was a part where Callie had written a non-fictional piece for school and she acts like she’s struggling with it and Kayden picks up her journal to read it. He reads it aloud and that piece I have to say was truly amazing and moving. It almost brought me to tears. Trust me… that does NOT happen, so the fact that I say “almost” means a butt-load. I just found it quite profound and I’m so glad that Jessica Sorensen was able to tuck it into the story the way she did. I will remember it always.
Can’t wait for more of Jessica Sorensen!
