Switched and Torn by Amanda Hocking
Genres: Fantasy & Magic, Young Adult
Switched - the first book in the Trylle Trilogy... When Wendy Everly was six-years-old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. It isn't until eleven years later that Wendy discovers her mother might have been right. With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed - a world both beautiful and frightening, and Wendy's not sure she wants to be a part of it.
Torn – the second book in the Trylle Trilogy… Wendy thought she finally understood who she was and what she wanted, but everything changes when the rival Vittra come after her. She’s caught between two worlds, torn between love and duty, and she must decide what life she is going to lead.
Oh my… I’m not sure where to begin or even what to say. This is the second series/trilogy that I’m reading by Amanda Hocking and in a word WOW! I’m just taken with this genius author!! She’s absolutely phenomenal! I can’t stop turning those pages. I’m not getting any sleep!! Last night it was 1:30 am and I have to be up at 5:00 am. It’s ridiculous how absorbed I am in the book that I don’t even hear what’s going on around me. I swear a tornado could come and I would be oblivious to it all.
The story is entirely (for lack of a better word) fresh. I know I use that word a lot, but seriously this is the first book that I’ve read about trolls. How new is that? Not since Rumplestiltskin (spl?) It’s an AWESOME story of adventure, danger, betrayal, lies and love.
The characters are so fantastic that you just… feel them. I’m so in love with Finn that’s it’s pathetic. I’m just into this story that I’m saddened by how things are playing out but I just hope and pray that things are going to be amazing in the final book, which, by the way, I have to WAIT for and that drives me insane!! LOL It’s called Ascend and it will be out in January 2011 and I might be rushing Christmas away but I don’t care… I want January to be here now so I can read this book!!
There aren’t too many stories out there that make me so emotional that tears are actually forming while I’m reading. That’s not to say that there aren’t stories themselves that warrant those feelings from me, but the way they’re told they don’t bring tears to my eyes. This author knows how to tell the story to bring out all of the emotions that come with it. I’m furious when my favourite characters are furious and when heartbreaking things happen I’m actually tearing up and that NEVER happens to me. It’s different with a move, but I very rarely get that emotional with a book. I’m also constantly thinking about the characters when I’m not reading. It stays with me.
Amanda Hocking is simply phenomenal!!!! ~ she does have to get people to proof read the books for errors though. A lot of grammatical editing that needs to be done, but the story is so good that it overshadows this minor flaw. I’ve stopped reading books for this same reason but I don’t think anything could stop me from reading these books. I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!!!
