My Blood Approves:  Seventeen-year-old Alice Bonham's life feels out of control after she meets Jack. With his fondness for pink Chuck Taylors and New Wave hits aside, Jack's unlike anyone she's ever met. Then she meets his brother, Peter. His eyes pierce through her, and she can barely breathe when he's around. Even though he can't stand the sight of her, she's drawn to him. But falling for two very different guys isn't even the worst of her problems. Jack and Peter are vampires, and Alice finds herself caught between love and her own blood...

Fate:  the second installment in the My Blood Approves series... Alice Bonham thinks she's finally found a balance in her life between the supernatural and real life with her brother Milo. Jack - her sorta vampire boyfriend - keeps her at arm's length to keep her safe. As for his brother Peter... she's not sure where he's at, or what he wants with her. Worse still, she's not even sure what she wants with Peter. When tragedy happens, Alice finds herself struggling with a terrible choice. Her decision has consequences that reach farther than she'd ever imagined...
Flutter:   the third book in the My Blood Approves series... Being undead doesn't make life any easier for Alice Bonham.   Her younger brother's love life is heating up, while hers is... more complicated. Mae is falling apart, her best friend Jane is addicted to vampire bites, and if Alice doesn't get her bloodlust under control, someone will end up dead.   Alice volunteers for a rescue mission with Ezra. But going up against a pack of rabid vampires might be too much, even for him.
Wisdom:   the fourth book in the My Blood Approves series...  For her eighteenth birthday, Alice Bonham takes a vacation to Australia only to have her trip cut short by an unexpected murder. While Alice tries to understand what happened, she regrets some of the choices she's made, especially the more permanent ones.   On top of that, the child vampire is running loose, and its attracting some very unwanted attention...

My Thoughts

Green swirls(Possible spoilers)  Okay, Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this review with all four at the same time but where I read all 4 in less than 7 days and my review is the same for each I thought, “why not?”

I accidentally came across Amanda Hocking on my Kindle while trying to download another book.  We won’t go into detail about how much of a knob I can be sometimes.  Anyway, once I got into reading the first book (I bought it so I may as well read it!)  I immediately went back to the Kindle to get the rest of them.  So it was the best accident ever!

My only negative comment about these books is the editing.   It appears that someone didn’t go through the books to correct any grammatical errors etc so every once in awhile you have to stop and re-read the line and say to yourself “Oh, that’s supposed to be “blank” here” or “that word is missing.”   Other than that one small, tiny, miniscule problem, which can be very frustrating while reading, the books are perfection!
This Amanda Hocking person is mega talented!  She weaves a story like none other and the rise and fall of each chapter is absoute perfection in my opinion.  Each chapter ends with you not wanting to close the book for the night.  You just HAVE to turn that page.  Then once you do, well, you’re in it for another chapter.  You have to have a little discipline if you have to get up to go to school or work the next day.

Her characters are just so amazing!  You either love them or hate them, which is fantastic to have that much emotion with each character.  That means they’re well thought out and come to life for you.  You feel for each one on an individual basis.  You fall in love with them.  You’re mad at them.  It’s awesome.  One character, which happens to be one of my fave’s is a dog named Matilda (Mattie).  Even she has a personality that comes to life in the book.  It’s just phenomenal characterization at its best!
The story itself, even though it’s yet again about Vampires and they have been done to death since even before the Twlight phenomenon, is fresh.  Yes, I know it’s about vamps so how can it be fresh?  Well, it just seems to be another twist on it and the story is just so interesting.  So maybe “fresh” is not the right word but I can’t really come up with the right word right now.  All I know is that I LOVE this series!!  Love it love it love it and I cannot wait for more.
There is no mention of future books, but I’m sure there will be…… actually it’s more like hope and pray there are more.  There is also a novella coming out in December that focuses strictly on one character’s past and I can’t wait for it.  Peter was a pivotal character in the book but yet his part was not the main focus.  I know that sounds like sort of a contradiction but really it isn’t when you read it.  He plays a huge part and that’s why he’s a character that me and a lot of other people can’t wait to hear more about.
Every series seems to have teams now.  Team Edward, Team Jacob, Team Peeta, Team Gale, etc.  Well, I’m Team Jack for sure!!!   However, I adore Peter as well and want to see him be happy too.  So I’m hoping that there’s a book in the series in the future that brings some happiness to Peter’s life and balance to the “triangle” that is Jack, Alice & Peter.  There is more balance now but a love interest for him would be good too.
Anyway, without delving too much further and giving away even more spoilers I need to stop talking about the story itself.   That’s yet another reason why I know this series is soooo good.   When I stop reading a book and I pick up another book and my mind travels back to the characters in the first book… that’s how I know.  I lay in bed at night after reading a few chapters of my next book that I’m currently reading and my mind is wondering back to Jack, Peter, Alice and everyone else.   I relive favourite chapters and scenes and I wonder what the next adventure will be.  Now that’s an amazing story!
Amanda Hocking has made it to my all-time favourite authors list just after one series!  Can’t wait for more.

About Amanda Hocking

I live in Minnesota, and I write young adult paranormal romance and urban fantasy mostly. The My Blood Approves series is about vampires in Minneapolis, and its available now. I also wrote the Trylle Trilogy, which is a paranormal romance without vampires, shifters, mermaids, fae, angels, dragons, ghosts, or ninjas.

My latest book is Hollowland – a zombie urban fantasy set in the dystopian near future. It’s a bit more violent and gritter than my other books, but there is still romance. Mostly though, Remy kicks a lot of butt.

I also enjoy Red Bull, Jim Henson, Batman, Jane Austen, Star Wars legos, and I absolutely hate long walks on the beach out of my intense fear/hatred of wet sand

My favorite authors are Kurt Vonnegut, Chuck Palahniuk, Bret Easton Ellis, Alan Moore, and J. D. Salinger, but I don’t write anything like them. I have an obsession with River Phoenix, and I’ve seen Silence of the Lambs more than any other movie, even The Dark Knight. If I were trapped on a deserted island, the one thing I’d take with me would be a boat capable for taking me home.

I’m also the guitarist in a band called the Fraggin Aardvarks, and even though its even twice as cool as it sounds, we haven’t had a practice in like two years, so I’m not sure that technically we are still a band. But we never broke up, and it’s an awesome thing to tell people, so I’m sticking with it. (We even had a synethesizer!)
