One Hot Chef….
Eric Vail has always loved a challenge. After leaving the Navy, he mastered his passion for cooking. As the sous chef at Top, one of Dallas’s hottest restaurants, his skills are pushed to the limit every night. Unfortunately, his ultimate prize still eludes him. Server Deena Holmes is the sweetest thing he’s seen in forever, but she’s as distant as she is beautiful. When they’re put together in the same training class at the infamous club Sanctum, he knows this is his shot. And this former SEAL never misses.
A Woman Who Lost Her Taste for Love…
Deena thinks Eric is the most gorgeous man she’s ever seen, but her heart has been burned too many times before. She’s sworn off relationships for good and she can’t trust herself with a man that easy to fall in love with. She takes a spot as a trainee at Sanctum in the hopes of finding a safe place to explore and experiment. When she discovers her partner is the same chef she dreams about every night, Deena knows she may have bitten off more than she can chew.
A Perfect Recipe for Passion
While exploring the world of Sanctum, Eric and Deena find themselves learning about each other and finding an intimacy neither expected. But when the ghosts of her past resurface, old wounds are reopened. Can their new found love survive when it’s put to the test?
Just One Taste is book #9.5 in the Master and Mercenaries series and #2 in Topped series by Lexi Blake.
Note: If you have not read previous books in this series, then this could be spoilery for you.
I cannot say enough about this book, this series, this author and this amazing world that has been created around the most phenomenal characters of all time! If I sound like I’m gushing then so be it. I don’t really give a shit what I sound like because I know what I love and I love these characters and this fantastic author.
Here we go…
Eric and Deena’s characters were every bit as amazing as the rest that we’ve grown to love as our own throughout the past 9 books. Eric is a retired SEAL working as the Sous Chef at Sean’s restaurant and Deena is working her ass off as a server to get herself through college. The romance and connection between these two is breathtaking. During the book we heard how one was meant for the other and let me tell you Lexi Blake made it entirely believable. Eric is a wonderful character. Ian Taggart possibly might call him a pussy Dom because he’s so sweet and patient, but he’s also got a very sadistic Dom side to him too. Besides, Ian likes to call everyone a pussy Dom, but Ian isn’t as “hardass” as he lets on. Ssshh, Ian would not want that secret to get out. Eric is just perfect. Deena needed patience and he had it in spades. He knew her better than she knew herself, which makes him amazing. It was uplifting to be able to watch the two grow past their issues and work through them as a team. One helluva hot sexy steamy team!
Lexi Blake also gave us a huge treat with this book. In addition to meeting and getting to know some new characters we also got to see some past characters and touch base with them on how they’re doing since they lost one of their own in the last book. We know everyone is missing a part of their soul with this loss but Erin is broken. We were treated with a scene on just how badly she is dealing with it. They all are. I love it when Lexi Blake brings all of her books together this way. Each book touches base with previous characters and every one of the characters come together as a family. It’s so amazing to read about.
One more thing…. oh hell yes I want to know more about Sebastian!!! He was the Sommelier at Top and Lexi teased us with a just a hint of his character. He’s going to be EPIC!!!!
In A Nutshell:
Have you ever been feeling blue and you sit down with hot cocoa and a fuzzy blanket and watch a warm and fuzzy Christmas movie (if it’s in season or a romantic feel good love story if it’s not)? That’s what this entire series is for me.
- It’s the hot cocoa with marshmallows.
- It’s the warm blanket.
- It’s the feel good movie that picks you up when you’re feeling blue.
- It’s that sparkly glass of champagne that’s calling your name.
- It’s that last piece of Chocolate Eruption Cheesecake.
- And most importantly to me personally… It’s the healing hug for your heart when it’s broken from missing a loved one that you lost and you can’t seem to get out of your own head and the only thing that seems to work even for a short time is diving into this world with all these amazing characters that feel like family. I thank Lexi Blake from the bottom of my heart for this.
