A broken MI6 agent. Damon Knight prided himself on always being in control. His missions were executed with cold, calculating precision. His club, The Garden, was run with an equally ordered and detached decadence. But his perfect world was shattered by one bullet, fired from the gun of his former partner. That betrayal almost cost him his life and ruined his career. His handlers want him to retire, threatening to revoke his license to kill if he doesn't drop his obsession with a shadowy organization called The Collective. To earn their trust, he has to prove himself on a unique assignment with an equally unusual partner.
A woman tempted. Penelope Cash has spent her whole life wanting more. More passion. More adventure. But duty has forced her to live a quiet life. Her only excitement is watching the agents of MI6 as they save England and the world. Despite her training, she's only an analyst. The closest she is allowed to danger and intrigue is in her dreams, which are often filled with one Damon Knight. But everything changes when the woman assigned to pose as Damon's submissive on his latest mission is incapacitated. Penny is suddenly faced with a decision. Stay in her safe little world or risk her life, and her heart, for Queen and country.
An enemy revealed. With the McKay-Taggart team at their side, Damon and Penny hunt an international terrorist across the great cities of Northern Europe. Playing the part of her Master, Damon begins to learn that under Penny's mousy exterior is a passionate submissive, one who just might lay claim to his cold heart. But when Damon's true enemy is brought out of the shadows, it might be Penny who pays the ultimate price.
Let me start off by saying that I am completely in love with this series. Masters & Mercenaries that was created by Lexi Blake is freakin’ brilliant! I mean sure it’s packed full of a LOT of sex and a LOT of BDSM subject matter, but this series is far beyond all the sex, which in a word is, heart-stopping! (Okay I cheated… two words, but I hyphenated them to make it legal.) … anyway… far beyond all of that. This girl can write dammit! She weaves a lot of information about military, CIA, FBI, mercenaries, criminals, serial killers, you name it, into the story and still has time to give you meaningful one-on-one time with each character so you can fall in love with each and every one of them. Her style is amazing and her dialogue/lingo is hilarious! I’m talking laugh out loud funny. It’s just an amazingly brilliant series!
Now getting back to Dungeon Royale which is Damon Knight’s story, it did not disappoint. We were introduced to Damon in previous books of this series and he’s a pretty fantastic character. His journey takes us on a cruise ship for the sole purpose of catching the bad guy… and maybe some revenge mixed in as well. The cruise theme you ask? BDSM Convention type. Oh what fun!! Damon had to enlist some help from our beloved characters from previous books who we all know, well if you read the series you know, are all or mostly Masters. Anyone who wasn’t trained in the BDSM world or at the very least familiar with it would be picked out of a crowd in an instant and thrown from the ship. If this happened then their cover would have been blown. They had to enlist a female operative to be Damon’s partner on the ship. This proved a bit more difficult because she had to be somewhat trained as an operative and in BDSM and unattached because there would be sex.
Enter Penelope. What a fantastic little spitfire character she is. Loved her! She’s just so likeable and fits in with the Masters & Mercenaries family. This was a great storyline and as always a very exciting sit on the edge of your seat to the very end tale. I love these characters and I love this series. Ian Taggart is and I think will always be my favourite character in this entire series. This story may not have revolved around him, but he’s been in it from the beginning and I can’t get enough of him. He brings life and so much laughter to this series. It just completely rocks!
Bring on #7!
Re-Read January 2015
I’m re-reading the entire series in anticipation of the 8th book coming out February 2015. I don’t have to change my review, but I do have to increase the rating to a full 5! I’m not sure why I deducted 1/2 the 1st or 2nd time through, but this being the 3rd time and I cannot find a single thing about this book that I don’t like. Maybe I was cranky when I read it the first time or something. Not sure, but I do know that I have to increase it to a full 5 paw prints! It totally deserves it.
